MONROE, La. -- Just because Tennessee Tech manhandled the
Warhawks a month ago in Cookeville, don't expect Louisiana-Monroe
to roll over and play dead Monday night when the two teams meet for
the second time this season.
Tech (6-4) and UL-Monroe (3-8) tip off at 7 p.m. in the Fant-Ewing Coliseum as the Golden Eagles look to sweep the two-game series after claiming a 108-70 victory in Eblen Center on November 29.
Tech's final game of 2008 finds coach Mike Sutton's team in north central Louisiana looking to snap a two-game losing slide after falling at Florida State and Vanderbilt.
ULM is coming off a narrow loss at the Big 12's Colorado before a holiday break. The Warhawks held the nation's sixth-most efficient offense to a season-low 41.7 percent shooting from the field and outrebounded CU by 23, but couldn't hold on to a narrow lead in the 65-62 loss.
Junior Frank Davis made his first six 3-pointers to tie a school record, and led all scorers with 22 points, one of seven Golden Eagles to put double digits onto the scoreboard in the 38-point win. In addition to Davis, Will Barnes had 13 Alex Davis and Zach Bailey scored 12 each, and DJ Lindsay, Alfred Jones and Ra'Shun Bryant each notched 10 points.
Lawrence Gilbert is the leading scorer for ULM, averaging 15.2 points per game while seeing action in only five games. He wasn't on the floor for the first meeting with the Golden Eagles.
Malcolm Thomas (11.8), Rudy Turner (10.4) and Tony Hooper (10.3) also average in double figures for the Warhawks while Jarvis Hill is scoring 9.9 points per game.
Fans can listen to the action on the Golden Eagle Sports Network, with Brandon Goodwin calling the play-by-play. The broadcast can also be heard on Free Teamline on either the telephone or the Internet.
