Golden Eagle football ranked 19th in both FCS national polls

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The schedule may have said the Tennessee Tech football team was idle last Saturday, but the Golden Eagles were busy anyway, moving up several notches in the national polls. Coach Watson Brown's team is ranked 19th in both The Sports Network/Fathead.com and NCAA FCS Coaches Polls this week.

The Ohio Valley Conference has two teams -- Tech and Jacksonville State -- in the Top 20. Winners of four in a row, Tennessee Tech (4-1/3-0 OVC) is one of just 12 teams remaining unbeaten against Football Championship Subdivision opponents. After opening the season with a loss at Iowa, a Football Bowl Subdivision squad, Tech rebounded with a victory over Maryville College. Since then, the Golden Eagles have won three in a row in OVC play, including two on the road.

Tech's ranking will be severely tested this week when the Golden Eagles host a resurgent Tennessee State squad Saturday at 7 p.m. in Tucker Stadium. The Tigers throttled Southeast Missouri, 55-3, last week in Nashville.
