A former All-American and All-SEC performer, Brandon Turner returns for his third season as a member of the Tennessee Tech baseball staff, bringing a wealth of experience both as a former player and as a coach.

Since joining the Golden Eagle staff, Turner has worked with the infielders and hitters and heads all recruiting responsibilities. In the 2013 season, the Golden Eagle team ranked seventh in the nation in scoring (7.3 runs/game), seventh in home runs per game (.95), eighth in slugging percentage (.464), 13^th in fielding percentage (.979), and 26^th in batting average (.303). The team shattered the previous program record for fielding percentage of .969.

In 2012, Tech finished in the top 50% in the country in fielding percentage. The Golden Eagles were even better offensively, ranking in the top 30 in a majority of offensive categories.

On the recruiting trail, Tennessee Tech has seen results since Turner has taken over as recruiting coordinator.  In just one season in his new position, Turner helped bring three players who went on to garner all-conference honors as well as play crucial roles in breaking the school record for wins and becoming the program’s first 40-win team as well as winning an OVC Title. He also led the signing of a top 100 class for 2013 graduates, according to Perfect Game. 

Recruited by Bragga out of Walker Valley High School, Turner eventually joined the Mississippi State Bulldogs, where he quickly made a name for himself.

Named second-team NCBWA All-American as a shortstop in 2007, he wrapped up his sensational freshman campaign earning consensus Freshman All-American honors due in large part to his .399 batting average, which ranked second in the SEC. He was the first Bulldog since Rafael Palmeiro to finish a season with a batting average that high, ranking 10th on the Mississippi State all-time list for single-season batting average. Also in 2007, Turner participated in the College World Series where he went 5-for-9 with a home run in two games.

Entering his sophomore season, Turner received preseason All-American honors from both the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball and was voted one of the top three most pure hitters in the SEC according to College Baseball Insider.

In 2008, Turner was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 12th round. As a member of the Jamestown Jammers, Turner finished third in the New York-Penn League in batting average with a .331 clip. He was named to the NYPL All-Star Game for his efforts. The Jammers went on to be defeated in the NYPL Championship Series. In 2009, he was promoted to the Single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers where he hit .281 while performing under a utility role in the infield.

Turner began coaching in 2009 where he was appointed head coaching duties of the 17U Chattanooga Cyclones. In the fall of 2009, he was named the head of advanced scouting and infield coach for the Lee University Flames. That same year, Turner helped guide the Flames to the NAIA National Championship Game where he coached future professional players Jose Cuevas, Junior Rodriguez, Scott Swinson, and Matt Gilson.

Following his time at Lee, Turner moved on to Carson-Newman, where he took on several responsibilities, including the infield, hitting and recruiting. During his time in Jefferson City, Tenn., Carson-Newman finished in the top 65 in the nation in fielding percentage. The team finished with an overall record of 27-27, ranking fourth in the conference.

In 2011, Turner was named head coach of the Tennessee Styx, leading them to the regular season co-Championship in the Great South Collegiate Summer League.

Brandon and his wife Morgan (Lyle) currently reside in Cookeville.
