COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Purple Team squeaked by the Grey Team Sunday afternoon, securing a 2-1 lead in the Tennessee Tech Purple and Gold Series and putting the Grey Team on the brink of elimination.
The Purple Team was propelled by an outstanding combined shutout from junior right hander Stanton Taylor and senior lefty Josh Bryant. Taylor pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two. Bryant came in in relief and dominated the final nine outs, striking out four batters with no walks and allowing no hits.
Sophomore Jake Rowland drove in the game's only run, a fifth inning single that brought in brought in freshman infielder Charles Matsunami. The run proved to be all the Purple Team would need to grab a 2-1 series advantage.
The fourth game of the Purple and Gold Series will be played Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 2:30 p.m. CT at Bush Stadium in the Averitt Express Baseball Complex.
