Former Golden Eagle Stephen Pryor gets called up to the Seattle Mariners
SEATTLE --- Behind his solid performances in Double-A and Triple-A this season, former Tennessee Tech pitcher Stephen Pryor will join the Seattle Mariners this weekend for their series against the Chicago White Sox.
Pryor, who started the season with the Double-A Jackson Generals, was drafted by the Mariners in the fifth round of the 2010 draft and quickly moved up the ranks in the Seattle organization.
“It’s unbelievable,” Tennessee Tech head coach Matt Bragga said. “He was drafted just three years ago and to move up the system as quickly as he has is unreal.”
Pryor, who was ranked ninth on the list of the Mariners top-20 prospects, made a total of 20 relief appearances with the Jackson Generals and the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. In his nine appearances with the Rainiers, Pryor allowed no runs in 12 innings, while recording two saves and 15 strikeouts.
“When he was with us, Pryor really worked on his craft and would always do more than we asked of him,” Bragga said. “We wish him nothing but continued success.”
