In 2011 (Junior): Chad made 53 starts at
shortstop during his junior season…hit .297 on the season,
as he posted 57 hits including seven doubles, one home run and a
team-leading four triples…drove in 29 runs and crossed the
plate 24 times…recorded a team-leading 140 assists in the
field and tallied 70 putouts…posted 18 multi-hit games
including two games in which he tallied three hits…put
together a pair of seven game hitting streaks and one eight game
hitting streak…made five appearances on the
mound…went 3-3 in stolen base attempts.
In 2010 (Sophomore): Chad appeared in 55 games last season, serving as the team’s primary starting shortstop. In 222 at-bats, he logged 70 hits - 13 for extra bases, including four homers - and 39 RBI. He maintained a .315 overall batting average, setting the tone early on in the season with a 7-12 performance over a three-game series against Georgia Southern to kick off the season. Hayes rounded the bases 39 times and also chipped in with six walks and four stolen bases on the season.
In 2009 (Freshman): Chad played 35 games in the infield for Tech as a true freshman, including 30 starts, becoming the starting second baseman about a month into the season…hit .220 on the season with four doubles and 11 RBIs…had seven multi-hit games including a three-hit performance against UT Martin when he had two doubles and two RBIs…Chad also pitched in 10 games for the Golden Eagles, and made two starts on the mound…pitched a complete-game two hit shutout against Covenant in his only win of the season…finished with a 1-1 record and a 7.27 ERA…struck out 15 batters and walked 10 in 26 innings of work.
Lanphier High School: Chad finished his senior season hitting a school record .519, making him league batting champion...hit five home runs, four triples and 19 doubles...had 40 RBIs...earned all-conference recognition three times in his career...Chad also played in a traveling summer baseball league with the Springfield Statesmen...finished his junior season hitting .486 with five home runs, five triples, 15 doubles and 36 RBIs...hit .382 his sophomore season with four home runs, four triples 10 doubles and 28 RBIs.
