COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team returns home for a four-game series against Mid-American Conference foe Buffalo beginning with a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. The series will continue on Saturday with a double-header starting at 1 p.m., and conclude with a single-game on Sunday at noon.
The Golden Eagles enter the series at 5-7 overall after snapping a five-game skid with a 14-13 win at South Alabama on March 10. Buffalo is 5-4 overall entering the series. Friday’s meeting will be the first in program history between the two schools.
Tech has a pair of hitters batting over .400 for the season. Chad Hayes leads the team and is among the Ohio Valley Conference leaders with a .438 batting average, while Chad Oberacker is hitting .407 with a team-high 13 RBIs. A.J. Kirby-Jones is hitting .342 on the year and has four home runs this season with a .711 slugging percentage and a team-high .525 on-base percentage.
Adam Liberatore, Lee Henry and Tristan Archer are each likely to get a start on the mound for the Golden Eagles over the weekend. Liberatore has three starts on the season with a 1-1 record and a 7.24 ERA. Liberatore has struck out 14 batters in 13.2 innings pitched. Henry has appeared in four games including one start on the season, and has a 1-0 record. In 10.0 innings pitched Henry has allowed just one run for a 0.90 ERA with 12 strikeouts. Archer has made three games for Tech this year and has a 6.23 ERA and a 1-0 record entering the weekend.
Tech has been productive at the plate this season, with two 20-hit games already in 2010. The Golden Eagles are second in the OVC with a .332 team batting average entering the weekend. Tech is 3-0 in 2010 when leading after the sixth inning.
The Golden Eagles will remain at home for a mid-week showdown against East Tennessee State on March 17 before visiting Memphis for a three-game series March 19-21. Admission to all Tech home baseball games is free.
