Mandy Thatcher began a new position on the athletics administrative staff in August 2007 when she moved from assistant volleyball coach to the position of Coordinator of Compliance and Special Events. She also has oversight of Tech's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as well as all CHAMPS and community service activites by Tech's student-athletes.
Thatcher handles a wide range of responsibilities that are
instrumental in the department's realizing smooth day-to-day
operations as well as meeting stringent compliance requirements.
She also coordinates special events for athletics, such as the Hall
of Fame Dinner and the Eagles Nest hospitality during basketball
doubleheaders.
Her responsibilities include managing all athletic scholarships,
tracking student-athlete participation and eligibility,
coordinating the submission of annual reports, and supporting
Tennessee Tech's compliance with NCAA and OVC rules.
Thatcher was a key player nf Tennessee Tech's 1997 Ohio Valley
Conference championship volleyball team, then spent three
successful seasons as an assistant coach on the NCAA Division II
level prior to joining the staff at her alma mater. She served four
years as an assistant coach at Tech, working alongside head coach
John Blair. Among her responsibilities, Thatcher helped recruit a
roster of student-athletes that went on to claim the 2008 OVC
title.
A native of Brooklyn Park, Minn., she spent three seasons at West
Virginia Wesleyan College where she helped compile a 39-37 overall
mark, including a 29-13 mark in conference play.
A four-year letterwinner at Tech from 1995 through 1998 and a
three-year starter, she earned numerous awards on the court and was
an academic honoree for her work in the classroom. She
graduated cum laude in December 1999, with a 3.64 grade point
average in English-journalism.
The former Mandy Miller, she married Roland Thatcher in May 2007.
The couple have a one son, Cale, born November 26, 2009.
