Grant Swallows, a native of Livingston and a former
record-setting Golden Eagle quarterback, was named in April,
2008, as Associate Athletics Director for Development at Tennessee
Tech.
Swallows, 29, came to Tech from his position as assistant
principal, head football coach and technology coordinator at
Livingston Academy.
Swallows earned his bachelor's degree in 2003 in
English-journalism at Tennessee Tech, where he was a member of both
the football and baseball teams. On the football team, he reaped
numerous awards and honors for his distinguished career, including
the Ohio Valley Conference Steve Hamilton Sportsmanship Award. He
was named the 2002 TTU NCAA Man of the Year as well as the
Outstanding Male Athlete. His football awards also included CoSIDA
Academic All-District, the team's prestigious Robert Hill Johnson
Award, the Sonny Allen Leadership Award, and the Headliner
Award.
After finishing his playing career under head coach Mike Hennigan,
Swallows stayed with the football team and served one season as a
student assistant coach for the Golden Eagles while finishing his
course work and earning his degree.
In 2003, he left Tech to take a teaching position at Livingston
Academy, where he also served as an assistant football and
assistant baseball coach. While in those roles, he received his
Master's Degree in Instructional Leadership in 2006, and a
Specialist in Education Degree in Instructional Leadership in
2007.
That fall, he rejoined the Golden Eagle football coaching staff as
an assistant coach under interim head coach Doug Malone. He worked
with Tech's quarterbacks, helping freshman Lee Sweeney earn OVC
Newcomer of the Year honors. In 2007, he returned to Livingston
Academy as head football coach and assistant principal.
Grant and his wife, Beth Ann, have been married six years and have
two children, Brady (2) and Anniston (born June 2, 2009).
