Erin Bean, a native of Clarion, Pa. and a graduate of Juniata College, has joined the Sports Information Staff at Tennessee Tech University, in an internship position which began on July 1. Bean studied Communications at Juniata, where she was also given opportunity to study photojournalism abroad in Athens, Greece.
An avid sports fan, Bean grew up immersed in athletics. Her mother was a gymnastics coach for Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Her father continues to be involved in umpiring state-wide baseball competitions. Her older brother is a prominent high school basketball coach in Western Pennsylvania. A three-sport athlete in high school in volleyball, basketball, and track, she chose the path of collegiate volleyball which led her to Juniata College.
During her time at Juniata College, Bean participated in women’s volleyball, before becoming actively involved in the Juniata Sports Information Department. Bean worked from student assistant to intern and finished as a prestigious Juniata Associate. Highlights of Bean’s duties included leading the volleyball and basketball stat crews, and acting as a secondary contact for the Division I men’s volleyball team. Bean also designed the 2011 Football media guide as well as created print publications for all 17 varsity teams.
During her time in the department, she was also given the opportunity to work with the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Communications staff. She kept in-game stats for men’s and women’s volleyball at Penn State and assisted in various game day operations.
Bean has also been involved in working during several
championships including the 2009 DIII women’s volleyball
regional championship, 2011 and 2012 DIII Women’s basketball
regional championship, 2011 men’s volleyball EIVA Conference
championships at Penn State, as well as various Landmark Conference
Championships.
She joins a staff led by Assistant Athletic Director Rob Schabert,
and will be the primary contact for the Tech volleyball, women's
basketball and softball teams. She will also work closely with
publicizing the success of the football and men's basketball teams,
in addition to helpingprovide daily updates on TTUsports.com and
YouTube.
